Hiccup.

Well...as in every project, sometimes you don't see things coming. 

We knew we had kitty damage to seal on the subfloors before our carpet arrives for installation on the 26th and 27th, but we found another surprise in the den. Yes, this den: 

It's looking unfinished again! 

 Um.  Gross.

 Since we didn't know how far down it went, and so many people have mold sensitivities....there was only one thing to do.

Chop it out!  We're always careful with the power tools at our place.  Safety glasses and gloves for all!

And then stand around and say, "Hmm." 

Fun fact #1:  Our subfloor is 7/8" thick.
Fun fact #2:  Lowe's and Home Depot both sell subfloor material in 3/4" and 1 1/8" thickness. 
Fun fact #3:  After wondering about what we'd done for over 24 hours and while waiting for Franklin Building Supply to open, we learned that Franklin in fact sells the 7/8" thickness material we needed.  Whew!  They also had our piece of trim to replace the one we pulled off in this room--the material at the other two stores is too thin and flimsy.
Fun fact #4:  Franklin is only open 7-5:30 during the week and only about 4 hours on Saturdays. Not exactly a good match for our schedules.

This story is "to be continued" as our progress moves on during this crazy flooring centered month.  We currently have carpet in the living room and master bedroom only.  It has already been hauled off from the entire upstairs, stairs, den, office, and hallway.  The countdown is on until the end of the month when we get our new carpet!  Cross your fingers that our to do list doesn't continue to grow anymore than it already has.
